Stalking is when someone repeatedly behaves in a way that causes you fear or alarm. This can include:
- Following you or someone close to you
- Repeatedly contacting you (calls, messages, emails)
- Sending unwanted gifts or notes
- Watching or spying on you
- Showing up where you live, work, or spend time
- Interfering with your property
- Monitoring your phone, internet, or social media
In Scotland, two separate occasions of behaviour that causes someone fear or alarm can be enough to show a pattern of stalking. If possible, keep a record of what is happening.
Stalking can cause physical or emotional harm or make you fear for your safety or someone else’s. The person stalking you might be someone you know, such as a current or former partner, or a stranger. It is never your fault.
